double coat

Siberian Husky care at home

Brush 3–4× per week; daily during coat blowout (spring & fall) Exercise need: high.

Never do this

  • Shave or clip the coat short
  • Use harsh de-matting tools on healthy coat
  • Bathe more than once a month unless medically necessary

Tools

  • Undercoat rake
  • Slicker brush
  • Deshedding tool
  • Wide-tooth comb
  • Nail clippers or Dremel

Watch for

  • Hip dysplasia
  • Eye conditions (cataracts, PRA)
  • Zinc-responsive dermatosis

How we groom this coat

  • Never shave a double coat — it damages thermoregulation
  • Line brushing works better than surface brushing for removing undercoat
  • Blowout season can last 2–4 weeks; increase brushing frequency
  • Huskies are often fastidiously clean and need fewer baths than most breeds
